DownRiver Currents

DownRiver Rising!

"The rising tide lifts all boats", so the old saw claims. We're doing our best to lift everyones' "boats"; adding services, keeping a "weather eye" out for storms across the ether, troubles within the world wide web and working to add everything worthwhile that we can find to our clients sites, in order to lift their web presence and help them succeed.
That's the main purpose of DownRiver Currents, our new newsletter; it's an organ designed with the task of disseminating worthwhile intel, necessary for your web success. It's another communication tool, another node in our network and a tool with which you too can profit.
There's no set schedule, at the moment, for the publication of the DownRiver Current, so just keep an eye on your inbox and you'll soon find a pleasant surprise!

Service: Latest Upgrades

Mail's Here! We're very pleased to announce the launch of our new email marketing service, the MailStream. This is an incredibly powerful email/newsletter marketing tool with "Pay-As-You-G0" pricing! This means that you don't end up paying a monthly "maintenance" fee (unlike most services, where you pay & pay & pay, even when you don't have a mailing). Even better, the per-item pricing beats out the more "famous" competitors in the market!
Better Pricing Wasn't the Only Factor. This is one of the easiest tools to deploy that we've found. There's a wealth of list-building and sorting tools, along with a whole bunch of easy-to-use scripts that makes incorporating client-collection on your site a snap! You know what that means, right? You got it!
Freebies! IF you're already a DownRiver client, we'll get you set up for your newsletter mailing/email blasts, free of charge! We'll walk you through campaign creation, implementation & execution and we'll assist with basic list building and we'll install the sign-up scripts on your web site free of charge.
Act NOW before I change my mind and decide to give something else away, free, instead! Contact us for more information on this excellent & profitable application.

Security: Foreign Matter

Paranoia or Keen Perception? For those of you I talk with regularly, you know I spent a number of sleepless nights, watching some highly disturbing activities across our servers, discovered after noticing some anomolies in site traffic. We recognized it as a sophisticated attempt to crack the servers and then take over any sites inside for nefarious purposes.
You also know that none of our clients' sites ever really came close to being compromised. Some of you also know that I actually spoke to one of the possible hackers, personally (after doing some serious sleuthing to uncover the hack-source), and that the "gent"(you may have heard me use an "expletive", too) was located in Estonia. Further research led me to this article about our "visitors". Don't doubt that they'll re-establish their network though. There's too much easy money available for them to stop their criminal activities.
I bring this up as a reminder to you on the need for a modicum of awareness and caution when interacting on the 'net. One of the exploits these people were running would crack open a site and install links to some of the most heinous content available on the internet. Other exploits can install keyloggers which record every character you type to an hidden file and later transmits it "home"  without giving you hardly a hint!
As clients of the DownRiver Group, you enjoy a high level of protection which we rarely mention, but the cliche "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" holds especially true in our arena.

The Freebie Files

The Freebie Files

The Paranoia Play...

...that's where this issues' freebie comes from. In the name of security, we present our favorite antivirus product, Avast antivirus. Avast offers this nice little suite of tools in a free version for home use. Here's the link to a free virus scan and scrub on the Avast website(good for those emergencies).

We've through a whole host of antivirus products and this one is a winner! While we use the paid pro version on the DownRiver desktops, I still have the free home version installed on a personal desktop & it gave me the heads up & protected me from that very same hack that had infected a local(and very popular) seacoast portal site!
I was scratching my head for a few minutes trying to figure out why this legit site was trying to hijack my computer! Avast saved me from a serious headache!

And don't forget to visit the DownRiver blog. There are new freebies showing up there all the time, along with alot of great tips and deals to get that oh-so valuable web presence.
